Should I Really Even Bother Though?
Working out and lifting weights at the gym has some very obvious benefits, and some that reveal themselves later on with time.
Several Reasons Off the Top of My Head
- Strength Gains - Who could've known that training and adapting to lifting heavy stuff makes you stronger? It's absolutely mind-blowing, I know!
- Muscle Mass Gains - Causing all that stress to your muscles damages them a bit in some spots, and then when they repair themselves, they're bigger than before. And who doesn't want to look like absolutely shredded?
- Fat Loss - All that physical activity not only has the capability to cause some pretty cool weight loss, but muscle is also denser than fat. This means that while your weight doesn't change much, you'll look pretty damn lean.
- Improved Health - Like before, physical activity is a generally good thing. Resistance training has been shown to help with decreasing blood pressure, managing blood sugar levels, and lowering LDL cholesterol. And if, God forbid, you decide to check out cardio, your lungs would be kinda happy about it.
- The Mental Aspect - It's been found that the more people improve through strength training, the more their self-esteem, body-image, and confidence increases. The drive to be consistent with one's routine also develops discipline. It also helps with anxiety and releases endorphins
- Flexibility and Bones - The physical benefits of weightlifting aren't just limited to your muscles. Strength training works on your joint's range of motion, and, like muscles, the temporary stress on your bones causes them to rebuild stronger than before.
- Fun and Friends - I've made a literal metric ton of my friends from going to the gym all the time, and many of my best friends go pretty consistently now too. It's also often pretty fun making progress and sometimes fooling around (just don't do anything stupid dangerous). All of it's also a pretty good excuse for blasting music into your ears.
